Fort has been considered among the most renowned marine castle in the Indian
West Coast. The fort is magnificent and historically important, and is situated

Location
Murud -Janjira
Fort is a Fort that is situated on a rocky island at the foot of Arabian Sea
along the Konkan Coast at Raigarh district in Maharashtra. The fort is
approximately 2km in distance with the village of Murud, and can be accessed by
boat due to it being situated in the sea center. It has a wall of approximately
40 feet above the sea level which guarded it against external attacks. The
position of the fort as it lies in relation to the waves on the sea is so
advantageous, that the enemies have never been able to gain access easily.
Mumbai is still considered one of the historic trips that tourists like doing
considering this settlement is 165 km away at Mumbai.

History
Murud -Janjira
fort is referred to as one of the unassailable seas of India. The rulers of the
Siddi community are believed to have constructed it in the late 15 th -century.
Initially this fort is constructed using wood and soil but there are instances of
a redefinition of this stone in a hard form later on. The Murud -Janjira
stronghold has not been withdrawn on once in its lengthy history, but against
the enemy no invariable occupation has been defended. There were efforts by the
Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and afterwards the son Sambhaji to
conquer the fort to no avail. On the same note the Portuguese, the Dutch and
English colonialists attacked the castle with none succeeding them. This
Siddira had ruled the fort over 300 years. This fort was the principal bases of
the trading and defense of the sea. It was regarded as one of the significant

Architectural characteristics

Fort is known to have an exceptional personality in regards to architecture and
impregnable defense system. The fort wall, perched on a rock in the centre of
Arabian Sea, intermingles with the sea wave which rendered it hardly possible.
The fort is approximately 40 feet high. There were 19 oversized cannons in
total in the inside with one of them being the renowned "Kalal
bandar" cannon until today to date. The entrance of the fort had been
constructed in such geometrical form that it could hardly be seen on the
outside. The living room, mosques, ponds and palaces were lent in side of the
fort. It even has two wells of sweet water water that availed seawater as
drinking water. It is a distinguishing mark in engineering then skills. The Siddi
rulers once had an administrative office and their residence that was located
inside the fort. Three sides of the engraving were followed, the enemies,
entrance and high minaret.

The fort never fell in hands of their captors in the ancient periods, which demonstrates the power and architectural brilliance. The fort continues to be living witness of the skills and prowess of Siddi rulers in valour, marine trade methods and level of engineering styles. Nowadays it is a prevalent tourist attraction site, where history animals and tourists visit to experience the splendor and architecture of the former times. The Murud-Janjira Fort remains in mid-sea and an icon that shows the invincible Indian heritage.
