Hawa Mahal, Jaipur – The Palace of Winds
Hawa Mahal, one of Jaipur’s most iconic landmarks, is a stunning five-story pink sandstone structure built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. Designed by Lal Chand Ustad, this architectural marvel was created for royal women to observe street life and festivals while remaining unseen from the outside, by the purdah system.
Its honeycomb-like façade has 953 small jharokhas (windows) that allow cool breezes to circulate through the palace—hence the name “Palace of Winds.” The intricate latticework and Rajput-Mughal fusion architecture make it a must-see for visitors.
