The Mughal Gardens

The Mughal Gardens of Agra

In the 16th-17th centuries, various Mughal emperors from Babur to Shah Jahan established about 44 magnificent "Charbagh" parks along the banks of the Yamuna in the city of Agra.

Mughal gardens are distinctive gardens constructed during the time of the Mughal Empire, and they reflect Islamic architectural styles influenced by Persian gardens. These gardens, such as the Taj Mahal and Shalimar Gardens, are characterized by rectilinear layouts, water features, and geometric symmetry, symbolizing paradise

The Garden is surrounded by big, high walls. these gardens contained flat fields, like flowers, fruits, shade, and moving water—all designed to preserve the heavenly environment.

Restoring the Garden's

A four-year conservation and research project for Mehtab Bagh and Itimad-ud-Daulah's Bagh along the Yamuna was initiated in 2014 by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the World Monuments Fund (WMF).In essence, the Silab wall, the water system, and the native Mughal vegetation—including the flower alignment and shape—were all precisely restored.

The water channel dried up, and the plants died after four years of neglect. The underground hydraulic flow was reintroduced to combat this circumstance.

The walkway, water rise, central fountain system, and Charbagh concept were all entirely rebuilt and divided into four sections.

Creation of Public Green Spaces and Historic Areas

This is not only the historical beauty but also the environment of the city—air quality, shade, public—these are also given importance. Mehtab Bagh is now dotted with lush green vegetation, fruits, fragrance, and natural shade.

New parks and pedestrian areas, including the Taj View Garden and Mehtab Bagh, are also being developed to provide some controlled additional green space for city dwellers.

The initiatives include the removal of encroachments, the development of hydraulic systems, the setting up of toilets and viewing points, etc., which play an important role in improving public health.

In conclusion

Priceless from an ecological and historical perspective, the original shape has been restored through research and climatic regeneration. For the advancement of public health and the city's culture and environment, the term "green city" has been proposed.
