Dakshineshwar Kali Temple
Dakshineswar Kali Temple is a famous Hindu pilgrimage site located on the banks
of the Ganges in Kolkata, West Bengal. This temple was built in 1855 by Rani
Rashmoni for Goddess Kali. The sanctum sanctorum consists of 12 Shiva temples,
the Radhakrishna temple, and the main Kali temple. This temple is famous all

History of Dakshineshwar Kali Temple
Dakshineshwar Kali Mandir is located on the banks of the Ganges in the northern
part of Kolkata and was established by Rani Rashmoni in 1855. Rani Rashmoni was
a charitable zamindar who planned to go to Kashi for a pilgrimage on the banks
of the Ganges. The night before the journey, he had a vision of Goddess Kali in
his dream. The goddess instructed him to build a Kali temple on the banks of
the Ganges instead of in Kashi, where innumerable people could worship Goddess
Bhavatarini.
Rani Rashmoni bought 20 acres of land and built this temple at a cost of about
9 lakh rupees. 12 Shiva temples and a Radhakrishna temple were built around the

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was appointed as a priest in this temple in 1856,
