Introduction
The ancient
Dharmarajeshwara Guha Temple, which is situated in Mandsaur district of Madhya
Pradesh, is one of the traditional Shailakat temples in India. This is a huge
rock temple, which is considered in ancient art, religious beliefs and a
peculiar blend of architecture. Historians have said that, it was initially
applied as the centre of the search of Buddhists, though it later became a key
pilgrimage centre of the Shiva community. This cave temple does not just stop

Location
The
Dharmarajeshwar Cave Temple is in a natural rock in the Malrahagarh region of
the Mandsour district of Madhya Pradesh in India. It is initially a rock cut
temple, which was carved by cutting into the mountain rock. This temple is
approximately 100 km of Mandsaur.

History
The
Dharmarajeshwara Cave Temple is connected to the Gupta period (4th -5th
century) and its history. It was originally carved out as a Buddhist cave,
where the monks used to do the pursuit and religious practices. As time passed
by the cave was abandoned and later on the Shiva community adopted this cave
and thus formed Shivling here and turned it into a temple. Here the sculptures
and architecture are a definite match to the impression of the Buddhist and the
Hinduism jointly. Historians feel that it is a venue where a major phase of

Dharmarajeshwar Temple is situated some 80km to Mandsaur city. It is also
accessible well through road way and one can have a taxi or board a bus that
will take him/her to the temple in Mandsaur.
Train:
Shamgarhitionally, the closest railway station is Shamgarh and is approximately
22 km away. Out of Shamgarh, one can book a taxi or use local transport to get
to Dharmarajeshwar.
Air: The nearest
Airport is at Indore about 220 km away in the temple. Taxi or bus can be hired
at the airport and a bus can be used to go to Mandsaur and via road to Dharmarajeshwar.
