Architectural features
Thalassery Fort is quadrangular in shape and built of laterite rock. Its thick walls have round holes and flanking bastions. The entrance to the fort is built on a massive rampart, and on the roof of the walls are 18th-century paintings that reveal the historical grandeur of the place.
The fort has a lighthouse that stands at the western end and a narrow and steep stairway to the top of the lighthouse. There is also a secret room inside the fort, which was formerly used as a warehouse to store the company's coins.
