He chose a steep hill called Chunakhola for the construction of the fort, which was strategically important and suitable for defense. Here, the construction of the Mehrangarh Fort began. The word "Mehrangarh" means "Fort of the Sun," as the Rathore dynasty was considered to be of the Sun dynasty.

The Story of Churna Nath Yogi and the Curse

There is an interesting legend surrounding this fort. It is said that a yogi saint, Churna Nath, who lived in a meditative state, lived on this hill. When Rao Jodha started digging the hill for the construction of the fort, the yogi got annoyed and cursed, "This fort will never get complete peace, and there will be water scarcity here forever." To get rid of this curse, Rao Jodha imprisons a Brahmin, Ram Meghwal, inside the living wall. In memory of this event, a small memorial plaque can still be seen on the walls of the fort.
